Just a little something for my grandmother. Her 89th birthday is coming up next week and since I always crochet her gift, this year I've made her a cake. She probably won't understand the significance, or even remember what the day is, but she's my grandma and I still want her to have something. My grandma has been suffering from Alzheimer's for a year now and it's been so hard to watch that damned disease take its toll on her. This is the woman who taught me to crochet when I was just 10-year's-old. Everything I have accomplished with my crafts, I owe to her. And now she's perpetually stuck in the year 1937, long before I was born... even before her own children were born. She doesn't crochet anymore, she can't, so the last funky colored potholders I received will be the last crocheted gifts I'll ever have from my grandmother. We used to spend hours talking about crochet patterns and what new projects we were working on. Now, a 20-minute conversation with her will consist of her asking you the same three questions six times because as soon as she asks, she forgets and asks again. It's hard, but she's still my Nana and I love her.
Happy Birthday, Nana!
This pattern was loosely based on the ideas from here
It's a beautiful piece of work, and I'm sure your Nana will love it, even if she doesn't understand what birthdays/anniversaries are for anymore.
Alzheimer's is a funny thing though... the person who has it, is constantly re-living the best years of their lives, and yet the people around them suffer most. Please feel free to message me any time if you need a chat/shout/scream.
Also sugar free which makes every person love it soo. I am very impressed at your skills hun. Again I really love your food crochet. hehehehe I know your grandmother will be pleased.

There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
